Dr. Andrea Putt Offers Nutritional Counseling and Weight Loss Programs

Nutritional Counseling

Up to 60 percent of all adult dogs are either overweight or are likely to get that way due to their age or activity level.  Obesity in dogs and cats is just as big of a problem for them as it is for humans.  Obesity is associated with heart and respiratory problems, diabetes, skeletal stress, and gastrointestinal disorders in pets.
Because we love our pets, we often share our food with them, feed them whenever they look hungry and give them treats during the day. These can actually be dangerous feeding habits which can lead to extra pounds on your pet.

Weight Loss Programs

Weight problems can also be associated with inactive lifestyles. Overweight animals have an increased likelihood of tearing ligaments and wearing down joints. As a result, their joints become damaged and painful and they don’t want to exercise.  This then adds to their weight problems. Older dogs are especially prone to this scenario.

If you think your dog may be overweight, contact us to make an appointment with Dr. Andrea Putt at Commerce Village Veterinary Hospital for a Nutrition and Obesity Consultation.
